The Constances biobank contains biological samples (serum, blood plasma, urine) from 58,000 participants. These samples were collected at the CES health clinics during health examinations that were carried out between 2018 and 2021.
Specific consent is obtained from participants for the storage of their specimens in the biobank. Further, for each research project that involves use of their samples, the concerned participants are informed and can object to inclusion of their sample.
The biobank includes, for each volunteer, 26 aliquots of blood (serum, lithium heparinized plasma, EDTA plasma and buffy coat) and urine, totaling over 1,400,000 aliquots (fractions of a sample). It is anticipated that the biobank will be progressively enriched with new biological samples (saliva, stool, hair, etc.) depending on the projects within the cohort.
Because it involves non-renewable material, access to the biobank and use of aliquots of biological material entails a higher bar of necessity and justification, and this is manifested in a more stringent approval process from the Constances International Scientific Committee than other uses of Constances data.
The Constances biobank, complemented by the vast array of personal and clinical data, is a powerful tool for research.
